In the Beginning with Dr. Dan
RemedyConnect was born out of a desire to simplify healthcare access through technology. But the road to get here wasn’t simple at all!
To begin with, when it all started, there was no internet. “Technology” consisted of landline phones, pagers, and pamphlets.
So, that’s what Dr. Dan Feiten used to create something magic.
Dr. Dan co-founded Greenwood Pediatrics with his colleague, Dr. Bauer, in 1992. Their practice quickly grew into one of Colorado's most prominent pediatric practices, thanks to their parent-centric approach. Their game-changer was the ‘Owner’s Manual’ — an 80-page book created by and for parents — detailing 40 child symptoms and actions to take. Its success attracted parents and physicians around the country, but Dr. Dan had a busy, growing practice. He didn’t have time to run a book company!
Necessity is the mother of invention
By 1999, private companies were developing websites for physicians. They were pretty basic: a picture of the doctor and their staff, the address, and a phone number. Dr. Dan asked himself, “Why not put some pediatric content on that website and make it available to all pediatricians for their websites everywhere?”
Enter Dr. Bart Schmitt, author of Pediatric Telephone Protocols and Your Child’s Health. Together, they collaborated on a web-based “Symptom Checker” for pediatrician’s websites, and Dr. Dan shared it nationally as Pediatric Web.
Dr. Dan continued to innovate and built an answering service that put triage rules front and center — so the service could answer calls more efficiently. From those basic roots, Remedy OnCall was born.
